A Bittersweet St. Valentine's Approach

Lady of the moon drops
holding fast to Mr. Nobody. . . .

Faded enchantment is pensive enough
to carry the young lovers home,
But let the cords tie sparrows' beaks
when the song repeats the song of Songs.

Silly of me, when to thou
the crystal shimmers and crests
upon an ocean bank of Atlantis?

There is that touch and that deepness
where wishes fling their romance
on rain-drenched turf and kitty kats.

Solid majesty, affirm thy rights --
we retreat, and clichés collapse
in a hay of honey cakes --
what relishes, toppings and webs.

Dear Valentine, if thou art mine,
you are mine
through all time --
Though time be a maze, and valentines cast
their shadows through sunlight and haze
